So You Think You Can Dance Season 7: Allison Holker and Robert Roldan
That last post I wrote was totally me pulling a Debbie Downer. I was feeling stuck in a rut, and didn’t really know what to do. I can’t really apologize for my feelings as they were expressed, but I can definitely apologize leaving everyone wondering what the heck was going on for a few days.
Crossroads came at the perfect time this week (along with a visit from my college roommate and a spin class) and has really helped me get back on track both mentally and physically. I’m not going to go into details, since a lot of it was really…profound actually…and quite personal as far as the whole brain effecting the body; body effecting the brain thing goes, but what I can say this this:
I’m learning that, sometimes, the only thing to do is to get upset, and get angry, and not know what to do. Because if you deny yourself those emotions, they can so easily turn to hate. Hatred of the situation your in, or worse, hatred of yourself. That is a difficult place to be, and somewhere even more difficult to climb out of once you’re there.
There’s a fine line between the two sides, between the two “worlds” I often say I feel like I find myself living it. It truly is a dance. And the only way to dance it well is to take it each step at a time. I’m still learning the steps…

I’m currently sitting on my bedroom floor marveling at the amount of wonderful things (read: things I don’t need and clothes that don’t fit) that are packed up to go to Goodwill, along with a huge garbage bag full of garbage.
I, quite randomly, chose yesterday and today to clean out my room, and I mean my ENTIRE room; 2 dressers, closet, desk, junk drawer, and window cabinet. It’s taken me all day yesterday and today, it’s done!
This cleaning rampage came on the heels of last night spin class. It was a “best of 2010” theme with some of the top hits from this year, and 2010 inspired drills. The last drill of the class was 20 20-second sprints with 10 second breaks in between. 10 seconds doesn’t sound like a lot of break time and, let me tell you, it’s even quicker when you’re on the bike. The goal of these sprints was to start with everything from 2010 on sprint #1 and, by the time we got to sprint #20, to leave all the negative baggage and have a mindset to carry with us into 2011. It definitely was worth all the pain! I tired to pick one specific “thing” from 2010 to shred for each 20 seconds and honestly felt lighter by the time we hit 20. I got inspired to make my room and all my belongings a little lighter, too.
There will be no resolutions for me this year. I’m usually the girl who makes a lengthy list and ends up beating herself up far too much for not accomplishing or “getting around to them”. Well, except blogging!! That was one of mine last year, and I’ve stuick to it! And thanks for sticking with me!
This year, it’s living, loving, and believing every dream and every goal.
So, as I close out 2010 with a bit more cleaning and celebrations with my family, here’s 10 things I did in 2010 and 11 I hope to do in 2011.
10 for 2010:
(in no particular order)
- Graduated from college
- Wrote a 65 page thesis
- Competed in 3 5Ks
- Took a vacation to Disney
- Grew deeper in my Faith
- Got a job
- Had some amazing times with amazing college friends
- Started this blog! (and really took pride in it!)
- Gave up my walker!! (mostly)
- Started truly believing in everything I’m setting out to accomplish
11 for 2011:
(again, no order)
- Travel, either alone or with a friend
- Compete in at least 2 more 5Ks than those already on my schedule
- Get my license
- Meet Prince Charming…a girl can dream can’t she?!
- Ride a bike, a real one, not a spin bike!
- Become even more passionate about my blog
- Read some good books
- See a professional bike race (see #1)
- Grow deeper in my Faith
- KEEP truly believing in everything I’m setting out to accomplish
- The big W. (see #10 and almost every other blog post I’ve written)

A friend sent me this site today and I want to share it with all of you.
It’s called “Best Way Out” and they have an extremely moving and inspirational video that plays off of the saying, “the best way out is through”. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. It’s definitely something we could all use to hear…daily! 🙂
I was going to make this a wordless post completely, but couldn’t really do that. I woke up thinking about how to go about writing my Camp Care post and realized writing wouldn’t happen at all. There are simply no words. So I figured I’d give you all a glimpse of the amazing piece of my life that is Camp Care through the photos and memories of these wonderful, loving children! I’m sad to say that none of these photos are actually mine. Most days I forget my camera or was having too much fun to worry about pictures, but I have great friends who let me share theirs!
I had my own expereiences at Camp too, of course, much like I blogged about last year in this post. The difference this year was that I was a Camp Care (adult) Kid myself for the morning sessions, then volunteered in the afternoon. This means I went through the 2.5 hour PT session in the morning. It. Was. Amazing. A week of free, intensive PT like I’ve never gotten before and will be lucky to get again. There were so many changes for me throughout the week, from things like increasing my overall body and mechanics awareness to standing longer, straighter, and more confidently to, on the last day of camp, being able to kneel and almost sit back completely on my heels. Something I don’t remember ever being able to do. So, for that, I’ll leave you with a few more photos…
